Organist/Principal Accompanist, First United Methodist Church, Lexington, KY
First United Methodist Church of Lexington, KY is seeking an organist beginning on or around March 1, 2012. Responsibilities include service playing for two Sunday morning worship services (8:30 and 11:00 a.m.), seasonal services (e.g. Christmas Eve, Good Friday, etc.) and accompaniment of the adult Chancel Choir (one midweek rehearsal). The organ is a 3-manual Zimmer. Weddings and funerals are handled on a first right-of-refusal basis. Applicants should have a broad knowledge of sacred and classical music, ability to effectively and creatively support congregational hymn singing, a Christian philosophy compatible with United Methodist traditions, and a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals. Church Organist/Accompanist First Christian Church (DCC), Georgetown, KY.
Individual needed for a part-time organist position. The individual selected enhances the worship services of First Christian Church (DOC), Georgetown by using the organ to lift the congregation in music for the praise of God. Duties include selecting and providing organ music at all Sunday worship services, infrequent mid-week worship services (as needed), and all special celebrations of worship where the organ is the primary instrument used, accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists as scheduled by the choir director and/or worship committee, selecting and purchasing music within budget, attending weekly choir practices, and submitting information for weekly bulletins by the deadline established by the administrative assistant. The individual selected also oversees the tuning and maintenance of all keyboard musical instruments of the church.
The position will require practice with the choir on Wednesday evening and Sunday service. Playing on Georgetown’s premiere organ, a Bunn-Minnick organ (2M/18 ranks). the organist has the freedom to set work hours which allow sufficient time for personal rehearsal and selection of the weekly organ musical offerings for worship services. The organist is expected to work closely with the choir director, continued adult choir, and occasional soloists to ensure the music selected reflects the theme of the service. The organist works under the direction of the choir director and ultimately, reports to the senior minister. The individual selected has the opportunity to provide organ music for all weddings and funerals held at the church when the organ is the primary instrument used. Compensation for these services is not provided by the church, but are honorariums from couples and families at an amount agreed to by the organist and those requesting the services. The use of the organ by another organist is only allowed by special permission of the senior minister.
The position requires a high school education and at least two years of related experience, including sufficient keyboard ability to sight read hymns and anthem accompaniments. Preference will be given to candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in music, music education, or a related field, knowledge of a variety of church music and how it is used in worship, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to be an effective and integral member of a team.

A uniquely qualified individual may be able to perform the work associated with a combination of two of the positions. Choir Director, part time, Woodland Christian Church, Lexington, KY.
Woodland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is currently seeking to fill the part time position of Music Director. Woodland is an open and affirming, theologically progressive congregation located between the University of Kentucky and downtown Lexington. It is affiliated with the denomination of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The successful candidate need not have a specific degree in music, but should have experience in vocal music and choir direction. Woodland has a strong preference for candidates with experience in teaching and in church repertoire. A familiarity with church structure, the liturgical year, and in working with pastors and congregations is desirable. Specifically, we are looking for an individual who enjoys the challenge of working with a modest sized congregation to develop a creative music program woven into multiple elements of worship and involving various genres of music. The Director of Music will work with the pastor and worship committee to select anthems, solos and any other vocal and instrumental music for worship services, as well as rehearse with the choir. The Director is expected to participate in staff and worship committee meetings. The expected time commitment is 7-10 hours per week. Director of Music Ministries
St. John Presbyterian Church, located at 1307 E. Elm Street near downtown New Albany, is searching for a Director of Music Ministries. The part-time position will be responsible for providing quality leadership for the church's music ministries, including choral and handbell groups. Additionally, the director of Music Ministries must demonstrate a vibrant Christian faith and the ability to articulate a faith-based vision for the purpose and practice of church music. The director should have experience working within a church community with various ages and disciplines, including organ, vocal, and handbells.
Review of applicants will begin the week of January 16, 2012. Candidates should be prepared for an interview, audition, and to lead a choir rehearsal. Selections for the audition should include worship music for both organ and piano from traditional and contemporary genres.
